Give Me a Brick
An instrument built by those who were told they couldn't work. Played by a musician who was told she couldn't play.
'Give Me a Brick' is a social impact initiative by PMA Music Foundation that brings together environmental sustainability, social inclusion, music and skills development, in partnership with corporates, schools and non-profit organizations. We transform discarded interlocking plastic bricks into handcrafted, playable musical instruments, while creating meaningful opportunities for SEN, PWD and elderly participants to learn new skills, express their creativity and contribute through their own creations. By bringing together sustainability, inclusion and the performing arts, we believe every brick can be transformed into a precision-crafted musical instrument - but a symbol of hope, resilience and the power of new possibilities.
The Voluntary Lead Builders Workshop
In August 2026, a selected group of volunteers in Hong Kong took part in a special hands-on workshop led by the US-based maker behind the brick violin. During this pilot program, participants experienced the process of transforming interlocking plastic bricks into playable string instruments, learning the craft from the ground up and successfully building their own instruments as part of the assessment.
Beyond mastering a new skill, these volunteers are preparing to play an important role in the next stage of Give Me a Brick. As future Lead Builders, they will help guide and support participants from disadvantaged communities in building their own instruments, passing on practical skills, building confidence, and bringing inclusive music-making to more people.
From learning the craft to empowering others, the journey continues.
